Effects of Experienced Abuse and Age for the Female Elderly People on their State Anxiety

|
The purpose of this study was designed to suggest a way of improving quality of life for the elderly people. The sample consisted of 243 elderly women who lived with at least one family member or relative and were cognitively intact. Stepwise regression was conducted to determine the amount of elder abuse-related variance that could be attributed to their state anxiety. In addition, age was added as a predictor variable in the analysis. The regression analysis revealed that the amount of the variance in state anxiety accounted for by the abuse was 34.5%, and an additional 1.6% by age. The findings were briefly discussed in the context of preventing elder abuse.
